  • Unsalted Butter
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • 8 cups cubed white bread or brioche (10 to 11 slices)
  • 3/4 cup raisins

If you are a French toast lover, you will love this dessert. If you are wild about bread pudding, even better.

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F. Grease a 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking dish with butter.

In a large bowl, combine the milk, cream, eggs, egg yolks, brown sugar, 1/2 cup of the granulated sugar, the vanilla, 1 teaspoon of the cinnamon and the nutmeg. Mix well.

Add the bread cubes to the bowl and stir gently. Set aside to soak for 10 to 15 minutes.

Gently stir in the raisins and pour the mixture into the baking dish.

In a small bowl, stir together the remaining 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Sprinkle over the bread pudding. Bake for about 40 minutes, or until just set. Serve warm or at room temperature.
